Mechanics Bay is the name of a former bay (now filled in) near the Central Business District of Auckland City. The actual street address is Solent Street Auckland City.

Whilst cleary not a part of Waiheke, Mechanics Bay plays a vital part in the Waiheke Community being the home base of the Auckland Rescue Helicopter Trust, Marine Rescue Centre , CoastGuard, Police Maritime Unit - Auckland Water Police and Police Air Support Unit - Eagle Police Helicopterall of which provide a vital service to the Waiheke Community.

Historically, Mechanics Bay was also the home base of Sea Bee Air which flew passengers and freight via amphibious aircraft from Mechanics Bay to Surfdale and throughout the gulf.
