Millie Watkins

Millie Watkins grew up in New England and lived for many years in New Mexico before coming to New Zealand and Waiheke in 2002. Trained as a teacher I have always been an educator. She started a Steiner kindergarten in my home, and originally came to Waiheke to teach at the short lived Steiner School. She currently teaches a Financial literacy workshop at the community college and has also run courses on Economic issues, Sustainable living and Community Resilience.

Millie built her own straw bale home outside Santa Fe, has been active in the natural building community and was one the steering committee of Builders Without Borders.

Millie is a trained ski coach and worked for a while at SnowPlanet creating a snow sports programme for people with disabilities. She is secretary for the Auckland branch of Disabled Snow Sports NZ. She is also a qualified surf lifesaver and was a member of the Orewa women’s surfboat rowing team.

Millie became active politically on Waiheke with the 'Waiheke does it better' waste campaign and currently works on the WRT Zero Waste programme and with the Biosphere reserve group. She is a candidate for the 2010 Auckland Elections for Waiheke Local Board

Millie is married to Andrew Watkins and mother of Emmett and Finn and Clark-King
