Waiheke County Council

In 1970 Waiheke gained fully comprehensive local government when the Waiheke County Council was formed (see [1])

Later (1989?) it was included in the Auckland City Council. In April 2008 it has been proposed that Waiheke Island needs independence by Bernard Urquhart Rhodes to the Royal Commission on Auckland Governance.
